Myall Art & Craft Centre

After the Victorian bushfires in February when so many people lost so much, the suggestions was made that something people of this area could do was presented to the Centre.

As a result in March members of the community were invited to participate, on Saturdays, to make quilts for bush fire victims.

The Tea Gardens/ Hawks Nest Lioness’s, Myall Coast Veterans, Tea Gardens Women’s Bowls, as well as private donations, provided funding that went towards batting and backing. Materials were donated by community members with stash for quilt fronts donated by participants.

Since March about fifteen people have been giving their time and skills to work on the twenty quilts that have been started with Barbara Travis providing guidance from her considerable experience. The results are impressive.

The intention is to complete the works by August so they will be available for display at the MCACC biannual quilt show in October. The quilts will be then be sent to contacts in Victoria for distribution.

It is proving to be a happy, sharing of skills, ideas, materials and the love of quilting with a result that is going to help others.

The next meeting will be on Saturday, May the 9th at 1.30pm
