The Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Lioness Club Newsletter |

December Christmas Party A special welcome to all members and their partners that we don’t see so often, and to our special guest Janice Taylor who did such a wonderful job for us at our Fashion Parade in September. I hope that you all have a very enjoyable evening. A big thank you to all those members who helped with the organisation and cooking for tonight and to the Lions for erecting the marquee for us. We have had a bit of a lull since the last newsletter as we didn’t have our usual November dinner, but a great evening was had by all those who attended the joint dinner with our Lions Club to meet District Governor Marilyn Kinealy. At our last business meeting we wrapped the gifts for the residents of The Myall Aged Care Facility and we will be having morning tea with them this Thursday the 17th Dec. at 10am so if you can come along, please bring a small plate of goodies to eat. Quite a few of our members or partners/husbands have been sick recently so I am hoping that everyone makes a full recovery and that you will all be able to enjoy the festive season with your families and loved ones. Here’s to a successful 2010. October Report Welcome everyone to our Spring Racing Carnival Dinner. Tonight we have with us as our guests, Lorraine Steers from The Myall Aged Care Facility in Hawks Nest who will talk to us later about aged care, and Karen Partridge from the Hawks Nest Pre School, here to receive the proceeds from our Fashion Parade towards their building upgrade. Since our last dinner, we have had the ‘Walk on The Wildside’ Festival where we had a very successful stall selling cakes, books, preserves, craft and plants. We were nearly blown away when we tried to set up on the eastern side of Tuloa Avenue, but then we moved to a more sheltered spot outside ‘Mungo Road’ and despite the wind and dust, we managed to sell everything. A big Thank You to all the members who provided goods for sale or helped on the day. Our takings were quite a bit up on last year, so even though the weather wasn’t perfect, our efforts were very worthwhile. The Bulahdelah School held their presentation day at the beginning of this month and Lionesses Sandra, Robyn and Carol went along to represent our club and had an enjoyable morning. Our next event is the Myall River Festival and Lioness Sandra will bring you all up to date on that. Our November dinner will be with the Lions Club for the District Governor’s visit This is a change from our usual day and date but you should still advise Lioness Gloria (Lioness Lynette will be away) if you cannot attend. September Report Well everyone, didn’t our Fashion Parade go off well? Janice from Ella’s Boutique did a wonderful job as usual, the models looks stunning in everything. Thanks go to all of you who helped in any way, some of you could not come but still took the time to provide some supper and we really did appreciate it. The general opinion was that the supper alone was worth more than the entrance fee. Needless to say, we think we have raised a little over $1000 for the Pre-School so I’m sure they will be happy with that. Thank you also to all those ladies who came to The Myall Aged Care for morning tea for Fathers Day. Once again, we had a lovely spread and they really do enjoy our visits. This evening we welcome Lion Shirley Smith, Zone Chairman from Tilligerry Club and Leigh Allen to our dinner. We are in a different zone now, mostly clubs in Port Stephens and I think we are the only Lioness Club. Leigh will tell us all about her recent trip to Ethiopia. I’m sure we will all find it very interesting as it is something not all of us will ever have a chance to do. At our next Business and Planning Meeting on 5th October we will discuss ideas for the run up to Christmas and our December dinner re venues & costs etc. It seems like a long way off but it’s not really so come along and put forward your suggestions.
